White Crested Tyrannulet
Serpophaga subcristata | Vieillot, 1817

Characterization: Small species measuring about 11cm in length. Its upper parts are olive-gray, it has a white eyebrow, light gray chest, pale yellow belly and a hidden white crest, but one that is often displayed.

Distribution: From Piauí, Bahia, and Minas Gerais to Rio Grande do Sul and Argentina.

Habitat: Open places like gardens, secondary forests, crop fields, and along roads.

Habits: A diurnal, monogamous, and aggressive species, this bird is restless and shows its nervousness through sudden movements of its wings.

Diet: Carnivorous, its diet consists of arthropods such as insects, spiders, etc.

Breeding: It lays its eggs in a nest built with fluff and soft plant materials in bushes, placed at about a meter from the ground.

In the UFRA area: This bird species was seen in 4 of 10 studied habitats. These habitats were wetlands with herbaceous plants, restored native forests, drainage ditches, and fields in spontaneous regeneration. This represents a medium spatial distribution. It was spotted 6 times and can, therefore, be considered an infrequent species at the studied farms.
