Characterization: A small species, measuring about 42cm in total length (including a long and graded forked tail); the female has a tail somewhat shorter and length 35 cm. Its upper side is gray, its wing and tail are black, its wings have a large rufous mirror and its neck is white, outlined by a brown stripe.

Distribution: From Bahia and Minas Gerais to São Paulo, Paraguay, Argentina (Misiones), and Bolivia.

Habitat: Open swamps.

Habits: A diurnal and migratory species, this bird hunts flying over the floodplains at a low altitude.

Diet: Carnivorous, it feeds mainly on arthropods.

In the UFRA area: Medially frequent species, as it was seen 19 times It had a major spatial distribution, being found in organic sugarcane fields, exotic woods, wetlands with herbaceous plants, wetlands with riparian forests, in the restored native forests and in fields in spontaneous regeneration.
