Characterization: Small species measuring about 19cm in length. It has black plumage with violet-blue glow; the female has a sooty brown color.

Distribution: Throughout Brazil.

Habitat: Fields and rice patties.

Habits: A diurnal species, this bird is associated with cattle, eating on the ground near them and rummaging through their droppings looking for undigested grains. Parasites other birds' nests.

Diet: Omnivorous, feeding on insects and seeds.

Breeding: The female lays its eggs indiscriminately in the nests of other species, depending on the adoptive parents to hatch and rear the hatchlings.

In the UFRA area: This bird species has broad spatial distribution on São Francisco Sugarmill's areas. It was spotted in organic sugarcane fields, exotic woods, wetlands with herbaceous plants, wetlands with riparian forests, in the restored native forests and in forests in spontaneous regeneration. It is considered infrequent, as it was spotted only 13 times.
