Distribution: In eastern Brazil, mountainous regions in Rio de Janeiro, and Espírito Santo, Rio Grande do Sul, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.

Habitat: Internal thickets and edges of the woods.

Habits: A diurnal species, it bounces around the ground and takes flight only as a last resort, flying at little height to the nearest thicket.

Diet: Carnivorous, this bird feeds on insects and their larvae, spiders, harvestmen and other arthropods, mollusks, etc.

Breeding: It lays up to 3 eggs in a nest consisting of a dense, long pile of sticks, nearly always lined with snake and lizard skins and an entrance through the top.

In the UFRA area: In the studies done at the São Francisco Sugarmill areas, this bird's distribution was limited to wetlands with herbaceous plants. As it was only seen once, it is considered rare within these farms.
