Characterization: Small species measuring about 17cm in length. The body plumage is dark-brown and the wings have black spots on them. The male has a gray head, and the female a lighter color.

Distribution: Throughout Brazil.

Habitat: Open landscapes, swamps and back yards, exploring roofs of houses and buildings and adapting to major urban centers.

Habits: A diurnal species, this bird may live alone, in pairs or in flocks of varying sizes. When frightened, it flies short distances, making a sound with its wings.

Diet: Herbivorous, specifically granivore, feeding on grains and seeds on the ground.

Breeding: It lays 2 white eggs in small, bowl-shaped nests built in bushes and small trees.

In the UFRA area: This bird species had a broad spatial distribution, having been found in all areas studied. It is a frequent in these areas, as it was spotted 60 times.
