Calidris melanotos | Vieillot, 1819
Characterization: Small to medium-sized species measuring about 22 cm in length. This bird has a brown coloring ribbed in white, with a cream-color abdomen; it has an elastic crest and a very sensitive beak tip.
Distribution: From Siberia to South America.
Habitat: Flooded pastures.
Habits: A diurnal, aquatic, and migratory species.
Diet: Carnivorous, this bird usually feeds on small, slow-moving animals it captures predominantly using touch.
In the UFRA area: This species is considered rare in the studied areas, as it was seen only once. Its distribution within the study areas was restricted to drainage ditches.
