Pale-vented Pigeon
Patagioenas cayennensis | Bonnaterre, 1792

Characterization: Small species measuring about 32cm in length. Its plumage is maroon on the top of its head, neck, back and chest, and the rest of its body is bluish-gray, it has metallic reflections on its nape and light brown tail feathers.

Distribution: From Mexico to Argentina and throughout Brazil.

Habitat: Edge of the woods and along river banks.

Habits: A diurnal species, it lives alone or in pairs, associating in flocks outside the breeding season. It perches high in the trees, usually in conspicuous places.

Diet: Herbivorous, specifically granivore and frugivorous, feeding on grains, seeds, fruits, and plants.

Breeding: It lays one egg in a fragile platform-shaped nest made of sticks and built at little height, in tangles of vegetation and palm trees with thorns.

In the UFRA area: This kind of dove infrequent, as it was seen 14 times in all surveys conducted. Its spatial distribution was broad, because it was found in 8 of 10 studied habitats. These habitats were the exotic woods, wetlands with herbaceous plants, wetlands with riparian forests, in mixed forests in regeneration, native forests, in drainage ditches, and in forests and fields in spontaneous regeneration.
