Magpie Tanager
Cissopis leverianus | Cabanis, 1847

Characterization: Species measuring about 29 cm. Species with a large, black and white tail.

Distribution: It occurs in Guiana and from Venezuela to Bolivia, the Brazilian Amazon, Mato Grosso, southern Pará, Maranhão, Pernambuco, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Rio Grande do Sul, Misiones, and Paraguay.

Habitat: They live on the edges of forests, in bushy secondary forests, and in gallery forests.

Habits: It's flight is short, crossing through the branches taking long leaps. This bird lives in pairs or in small flocks.

Diet: It feeds on insects and fruits, particularly bananas and guavas.

Breeding: It has an average of 2 brood per season, laying 3 eggs each time.

In the UFRA area: This bird is considered rare, having been found in the San Francisco Sugarmill farms in the organic sugarcane fields and native forests.
