Distribution: From Mexico to Argentina and throughout Brazil.

Habitat: Countryside or forest edge species.

Habits: Diurnal species, but prone to hunting at dusk to catch bats.

Diet: Carnivorous, feeding on bats and snakes.

Breeding: It lays up to 3 eggs in large tree holes or holes in rocky cliffs, but does not line its nest.

In the UFRA area: This species is considered rare at the studied farms, as was reported only three times. Its spatial distribution was restricted to mixed forests in fields in spontaneous regeneration.
