Characterization: Species measuring about 46cm in length. The crest of its shorter jaw is shorter, and it has glossy green plumage and a greenish white iris.

Distribution: It occurs from Panama to Argentina and throughout Brazil.

Habitat: This species of bird generally lives far from human habitations, in groups of 3-4 couples. It can sometimes group in larger flocks as well, with dozens of individuals.

Habits: Common in gallery forests, river banks and lakes, swamps, and mangroves.

Diet: This species of bird feeds on insects, fishing in shallow waters, and on fruits, coconuts, and seeds. It will occasionally follow army ants.

Breeding: It may make individual or collective nest, the latter with 20 or more large greenish blue eggs in them, covered with a crust of limestone that is successively shaved during hatching. The nest is usually located near water.

In the UFRA area: In studies conducted at the areas of the São Francisco Sugarmill, this species of bird was found once, and was considered rare. It is found in floodplains with riparian forests.
