In 1986, Sao Francisco Sugar Mill gave rise to Green Cane Project, mainly aimed at developing a self-sustainable sugar cane production system, based on the pursuit of throughouly manifesting the ecological and conservative potential of this culture.

From soil preparation to cane industrial procedures, the integration of the most advanced technology available was brought about, relying on the antique and traditional techniques of natural harvest. As a consequence of such initiative, Sao Francisco Sugar Mill, in October 1997, was awarded the organic producer certificate.
